Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, Processes and Continuous Improvement, the Automation Engineer will focus on selecting and optimizing the performance of our automated systems. More specifically, you will monitor and recommend automated systems, their components and/or technological choices, ensure their optimal integration into our environment, solve complex technical problems and transfer the technical knowledge associated with operational resources.
In addition, the automation engineer will work together with multidisciplinary teams to improve and optimize processes and methods in order to improve the profitability and productivity of operational activities.
Main responsibilities of the Automation Engineer:
- Coordinate automation modification and improvement projects in the context of transformation towards Factory 4.0, ensuring the execution of the work
- Ensure a technological watch and recommend automated systems and/or associated technologies that meet the needs of the company
- Configure and program systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, networking, etc.) using different technologies (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider, etc.)
- Participate in the evaluation of technological choices, components, equipment and measurement instruments as well as the partners who propose them in collaboration with continuous improvement engineers and managers
- Increase the reliability and optimize the performance of automated systems
- Solve complex technical problems in collaboration with operations
- Identify performance opportunities
- Diagnosing Root Causes
- Participate in the development of immediate and permanent solutions
- Participate in the development of ways to maintain performance and prevent recurring problems.
- Act as an expert and gatekeeper of best practices for automation requests made via work orders.
- Ensure compliance with automation standards.
- Ensure sound management of PLC network infrastructures.
- Manage internal and external human resources in the execution of automation projects.
- Transfer technical knowledge and advise existing resources.
- Support the members of operations (production, maintenance, quality, engineering) in the acquisition of technical knowledge necessary to maintain the optimal performance of automated systems.

Knowledge and skills sought!
- College or university degree in electrical engineering, industrial electronics, engineering, automated production or any other relevant training
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar position
- Good knowledge of manufacturing and agri-food (an asset)
- Knowledge of Rockwell Automation Suite products as well as ALLEN-BRADLEY controllers
- Mastery of the configuration and programming of PLCs and HMI and SCADA operator interfaces
- Good knowledge of robotics (Asset)
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of the Factory 4.0 and IIoT philosophy
- Knowledge of Rockwell Suite software, Kepware, KEPserver; OSIsoft PI system; CMMS – IT GUIDE (COGEP)
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Functional knowledge of French and English, both oral and written (to ensure unobstructed communication with our factories in Florida and British Columbia)
- Excellent technical problem-solving skills and logical acumen
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills
